Kitty in a Cup: Fit the Rim Around the Body and Paws

The cup rim should frame the kitty without burying its paws or forcing the body into a narrow opening. Measure the completed cat and cup together before their final attachment. This fitting guide concerns the relationship between those parts and does not turn unspecified round totals into a complete amigurumi pattern.

Finish both constructions independently

A head that starts with six sc and continues “to round 17” still needs every increase, straight round, decrease and closure. The same is true of a body described only as seven rounds. Paws require their own instructions; naming them at assembly does not define their shape.

For the cup, a target of eighteen rounds and a 36-stitch rim does not specify the base increases, side height or any handle. Choose complete cat and cup instructions, including their intended filling and final edges, before testing their fit together.

Compare the cup’s opening with the actual cat

Measure the rim’s inside opening and the widest portion of the kitty that must fit through it. Trial placement should not stretch the rim severely or crush the cat’s filling. Check how high the head sits when the body is at its intended depth.

If the cup needs adaptation, use its actual fabric gauge and complete shaping sequence. Adding arbitrary increases in the final round may enlarge only the rim while leaving the lower interior too narrow. Changing the entire yarn thickness also changes height, stiffness and the fit of any decorative rim.

Locate the paws after the body depth is chosen

1. Place the finished cat at its intended depth in the finished cup.
2. Mark the rim locations where the completed paws will rest.
3. Compare their height and distance from the face centre.
4. Check the back view so the body does not tilt while the paws appear level from the front.

Attach paws using the complete component pattern’s intended method. A paw resting on the rim may need a different anchor from one attached only to the cat. Decide that connection explicitly before sewing either piece.

Fit the ears and face while access remains available

Compare the ear pair’s shape and row direction before attaching them. Three undefined increase rounds do not guarantee the pointed ears shown by the design. Use exact ear instructions and mark both bases in relation to the finished face.

If the selected cat uses internally backed eyes, fit them before closing the head. Do not install them after an inaccessible head has already been sewn into the cup. Embroidered features need securely buried ends and are not an automatic safety certification.

Choose removable or sewn-in placement

A removable kitty needs independently finished closures and a fit that does not catch its ears or limbs during removal. A sewn-in display needs a defined attachment between firm cat and cup stitches, with the final position checked before the last tail is secured.

Keep the intended rim decoration clear of those anchors. A heart detail needs complete instructions if it is part of the design; the one-round heart practice motif is a separately described alternative whose size must be tested on the actual cup.

Inspect the display as one object

Check the cup’s base, rim, paw connections, ears, neck and any buried tails. No tested standing stability, fixed height or child-use suitability is claimed by this guide. Record the complete patterns used, dimensions and whether the kitty is removable.

Care must accommodate both yarns, filling and face components. Let the interiors dry fully and inspect any sewn-in joins after cleaning.
